I was listening to a song on my Spotify again and again and again and of course my daughter is like “Oh come on dad! I hate this song! Can we listen to something else?”. So, I had to explain to her the reason this song is so deserving to be repeated fifty thousand times on the Tom Ryan playlist, is because of the amazing melody and the powerful words. She didn’t care to hear about that and continued to complain about hearing the same song again. I had to quickly refresh her young memory of a time when her and her two year old brother Thomas, would shout out from the backseat for me to repeat the golden oldie, “Go, Johnny Go!” again and again. My kids dig Chuck Berry, who knew? At least I’ve done somethings right as a parent. Anyway, I got to thinking about our minds and how we like to replay certain songs in our heads too. Sometimes, we like to replay the “woe is me song” or sometimes, we play the “I’m a loser”, or “I’m a screw up song”, “God doesn’t love me song”, or “Oops I blew it again” and we feast our minds on these words and we turn up the volume so loud, we can’t hear the Holy Spirit in the car with us screaming out “Oh come on! Not this song again!?”. Scriptures say to be transformed we must daily renew our minds. But what are we renewing our minds with? Is it the same old song that’s
actually hurting our ears and those around us? How about changing up the playlist this time? Let’s put on repeat the promises of God’s words of who He says we are in Him and how much He loves us. Tired of the old playlist? Then give it over to Jesus, let Him delete it for you, and the Holy Spirit will upload a new one that will have God the Father singing over you in no time. And remember, He will never sing out of tune.
