“Thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Who doesn’t love opening up gifts? Whether it’s Christmas or your birthday, everyone loves getting something for free. I remember when as a kid I received a remote control car for Christmas. I loved that car it was the coolest thing to an eight year old boy, to remotely drive the car and crash it into my sister’s Barbie dolls. But what if for some strange reason, I ignored the sign on the box which says, “batteries included “ and took the car out and pushed the car around with my own hands to try and make it go? And what if after doing that and getting frustrated, I asked my dad to help me? And what if He would tell me to use the remote control and that the batteries were included but what if I ignored his answer? Instead of turning the car on so the batteries could operate the car, what if I still insisted that my dad come along side me and literally help me to push the car with my hands instead? And what if he stopped answering me after awhile and I got fed up with my dad? What if I decided to throw the car away and run away from home, all because my dad didn’t care for me and gave me a toy that doesn’t work and doesn’t bother to even want to help me push it? Now I don’t know about you, but if I really did act this way, you would say I had some serious issues and probably needed to be put in a mental institution or become a guest on the Jerry Springer show. Seriously though as God’s children we kind of do the same thing. We have no problem receiving the gift of eternal life, salvation from hell by faith without works but when it comes to salvation over the power of sin, the sanctification process, we forget that that’s part of the gift too and that the batteries are included. We somehow think once we are saved from the penalty of sin, in order for us to be saved from the power of sins that control us everyday, we got to somehow paddle our own canoe. We got to push the car with our hands by reading our Bible more, praying more, going to church more and by God’s strength, He will come alongside us and push the car with us. But God doesn’t do this and we wonder where’s the victory, where’s God, doesn’t He care? And then some of us eventually just give up on our faith altogether. But my friends God does care, He’s always with us and the gift has always been there. We just have to open it by faith and receive it too. The scripture says, “thanks be to God, He GIVES us the victory “. Victory is given by God, it is a gift. Yes, we grow as Christians and no ones perfect and yes we should read our Bibles and pray and go to church but not to become victorious but to remind ourselves of the victory we already have. We are not growing towards becoming victorious, we grow from a place of victory. Whenever we have to work for our victory we step out of faith and fall back into trusting our works and no salvation comes from works. Have you accepted Christ as Savior yet still find it a struggle to push the car? Then stop pushing it with your hands and go get that remote control. It’s part of the present too and it’s waiting for you in the empty tomb, wrapped up in His power and all you have to do is open and receive it by faith. Remember the batteries are included in this gift, it runs on the power of the Holy Spirit and nothing, not even the Energizer Bunny can keep up, He keeps on going and going and going…..

When I originally commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added”
checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get several emails with
the same comment. Is there any way you can remove people from that service?
